Jessica is a single mom from Virginia, and she was out of work for 11 months. It was a stressful time, but she didn't have to worry about not being able to feed her daughter, M’Kayla. While she searched for a new job, she applied for SNAP to help them pay for food.
"The difference was starve or not starve," Jessica said. "If we didn’t have the SNAP benefits, there’s no way I would have been able to feed her on my own."
SNAP is one of the most effective programs we have when it comes to feeding hungry kids. It helped Jessica, just like it helps millions of other families, put food on the table during a hard time.
Today, Jessica has a good-paying job, and no longer receives SNAP benefits, "We were blessed to be able to be a part of the program, up until we didn't need it anymore," Jessica said. "It wasn't as important for me as it was for M'Kayla."
