We can all agree that moms deserve more than a card or a box of chocolates on Mother's Day. Moms make difficult choices every day. For mothers who also struggle to feed their families, those choices can be heartbreaking.
That's why we wanted to tell you Natasha's story - This is Temporary - and hope you'll share this video about Natasha with your own network.
Natasha is raising her kids Andre and Victoria to be smart, resilient people. It can be hard taking care of them on the salary she makes working full-time at a pharmacy. With help from No Kid Hungry, Andre and Victoria's school made breakfast a part of the school day and started a new afterschool meals program. That means that Natasha can count on her kids eating healthy food at school. It's a welcome relief while she works on building a bright future for her family.
Our research confirms that children in America are struggling with hunger.
-- Almost half of low-income moms (48%) say they can't afford enough food each month to meet their family's needs.
-- 64% of low-income moms say it would be difficult to feed their children if they encountered an unexpected expense, like a car repair or medical bill.
We know moms (and dads) face difficult choices. One way we can help is by ensuring that their kids eat three meals a day at school. That's why we work with schools across the country to make sure every kid has the food they need. And in the summer, we support community centers and schools that serve kids free, nutritious summer meals. It's a simple way to make sure hardworking parents have one less thing to worry about.
Let's celebrate moms today, and every day, for being the first step in making No Kid Hungry a reality.
