Kids baking at our holiday event

DC's Cookies & Cocoa

Holiday cheers!

Every December, No Kid Hungry celebrates the holiday season with our Cookies & Cocoa event. We would come together for an afternoon of fun activities including kid-friendly demos with some of our local Culinary Champs. Although this season may be different, we want to keep the Cookies & Cocoa spirit alive and share a little cheer from our family to yours.

5 Things to do with your kids

  1. WATCH our local culinary hero, Michael Platt from Bowie, MD, show you a unique take on holiday cookie decorating. In 2017, an 11-year-old Michael started Michaels Desserts where, for every dessert sold, a dessert is given to a person in need. Michael has since created P.L.L.A.T.E., a non-profit organization with the goal to create a pay-what-you-can grocery store. Follow Michael on Instagram and Facebook at @michaelsdesserts.
  2. BAKE & SHARE your own cookies by tagging #cookiesNKH and @nokidhungrydc on Instagram. We can't wait to see what you create!
  3. TALK to your kids about hunger -- how it affects kids across the country and how you can help -- using our "How to talk to your kids about hunger" resource found here.
  4. TEACH your kids about the importance of nutrition using Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters family activities like Happy Whole-idays! More can be found here.
  5. DONATE to No Kid Hungry. 1 in 4 kids could face hunger this year because of the coronavirus. No Kid Hungry has a plan to make sure those children are fed, both during this crisis and in the recovery to follow. Through a combination of emergency grants, strategic assistance, advocacy and awareness, No Kid Hungry is helping kids, families and communities get the resources they need.

We support No Kid Hungry Because...

"Sharing the mission of No Kid Hungry with our son provides the opportunity to awaken his senses of the needs of those around him and reinforce our family value of giving back to others. Our hope is that by creating this responsibility at a young age, our son grows up with an awareness that there is a larger world of kids with circumstances quite different than his own."
- Steve Blommer, Chuck Holzwarth, and Flynn Holzwarth Blommer

"Providing food for children and families has never been more important or needed. No Kid Hungry’s proven ability to help millions of families and children makes them the perfect way to support feeding children. We also love that our children can participate in such a worthwhile activity and learn about giving back, which makes No Kid Hungry a cause that we support together, as a family."
- The Jaeckel Family

"My name is Will Nichols and I go to Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, DC. My family and I support No Kid Hungry because hungry kids can't learn. Virtual school is hard enough without worrying about where your next meal is coming from.  We all need to work together to end childhood hunger."
- Will Nichols, son of Su-Lin and Bill Nichols

No child should go hungry in America. But in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, 1 in 4 kids could face hunger this year. No Kid Hungry is working to end childhood hunger by helping launch and improve programs that give all kids the healthy food they need to thrive. This is a problem we know how to solve. No Kid Hungry is a campaign of Share Our Strength, an organization committed to ending hunger and poverty.
