WASHINGTON, DC – Today, No Kid Hungry, a national campaign of the nonprofit organization Share Our Strength, announced a new LA Wildfire Response Fund to support kids and families as they face unimaginable loss across the Los Angeles region. In partnership with actor and No Kid Hungry National Spokesperson Jeff Bridges and actor and longtime No Kid Hungry champion Kristen Bell, the LA Wildfire Response Fund will help ensure no child misses a meal and provide immediate and long-term assistance to school districts and local meal providers as they recover and rebuild.
In California, 1 in 6 kids rely on school meals for their daily source of nutrition. Rebuilding and supporting schools that have been lost or damaged in the fires is not only critical for kids’ education, it’s also a health issue - every kid needs healthy food, every day. Jeff Bridges and Kristen Bell are lending their voices to raise awareness and support for No Kid Hungry’s LA Wildfire Response Fund to ensure no child faces hunger and ensure the heroes on the ground leading the relief and recovery efforts have the resources they need today and in the future.
"I’m proud to team up with No Kid Hungry to help schools and community groups make sure no kid in L.A. misses a meal and help rebuild a stronger California. The wildfires that have caused so much destruction in Los Angeles hit close to my heart. California is my home and it will take teamwork, collaboration and effort from all of us to recover from this experience," said Jeff Bridges, award-winning actor and No Kid Hungry National Spokesperson.
"I’ve seen the power of school meals firsthand in Los Angeles with No Kid Hungry," said Kristen Bell, award-winning actor and longtime No Kid Hungry champion. "School meals don’t only nourish kids, they also build community and can change the trajectory of a child's life. As homes, communities and schools have been destroyed by these horrific wildfires, we all must do our part to ensure no kid goes hungry or falls behind."
No Kid Hungry is committed to responding effectively and sustainably through the creation of the LA Wildfire Response Fund in an effort to meet kids' immediate needs, support the Los Angeles community and its partner school districts as they rebuild, and create long-term food security and economic mobility for families in California. In its first phase of response, No Kid Hungry offered technical assistance to impacted school districts, issued emergency grants to two organizations supporting communities impacted by the wildfires - the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network - and developed a resource for families to find meals and disaster assistance as well as ways for community members to help.
