12/11/18, WASHINGTON, DC – Members of the farm bill conference committee announced a compromise on the 2018 Farm Bill, the legislation that includes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The following is a statement from Share Our Strength’s Senior Vice President, Lisa Davis.

“We are pleased that the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee has reached a bipartisan agreement. Although the final report does not include every provision we championed, it preserves the funding and structure for SNAP and SNAP Nutrition Education.

At the end of the day, this is about ensuring that children and families who have fallen on hard times will continue to receive the nutrition assistance they need. A growing body of research demonstrates that SNAP improves health and educational outcomes for children, helping ensure they grow up healthy and strong.

We applaud the strong, bipartisan leadership of Chairman Roberts, Ranking Member Stabenow, Chairman Conaway and Ranking Member Peterson, and look forward to working with the 116th Congress to continue strengthening critical nutrition programs that help kids grow up healthier, smarter and more likely to break the cycle of poverty We urge the House and Senate to pass the bill quickly.”
